The king has taken the homage of William de Ustthuayt and Alice his wife, William de Penreth’ and Cristiana his wife, Simon le Fevre and Agnes his wife kinswomen and co-heiresses of William le Cressen’, deceased, for all the lands and tenements which the same William held of the king in chief on the day he died, and he has rendered those lands and tenements to them. Order to Master William de Clifford, king’s escheator this side of the Trent, that having accepted security from the aforesaid William, Alice, William, Cristiana, Simon and Agnes for rendering their reasonable relief at his Exchequer, and having made division of the aforesaid lands and tenements between the aforesaid heiresses, to cause the aforementioned William, Alice, William, Cristiana, Simon and Agnes to have full seisin of the same shares falling to them of the aforesaid lands and tenements of which the aforementioned William was seised in his demesne as of fee on the day he died and which were taken into the king’s hand by reason of the death of the aforesaid.

The king has taken the homage of Bertee daughter and heiress of Cicilie de Hoton’ for all the lands and tenements which the same Cecilia held of the king in chief on the day she died, and he has rendered those lands and tenements to her. Order to Master Richard de Clyffod’, escheator beyond the Trent, that having accepted security from the aforesaid Bertea for rendering her reasonable relief at his Exchequer, to cause the same Bertee to have full seisin of all the lands and tenements of which Cecilia was seised in her demesne as of fee on the day she died and which were taken into the king’s hand by reasons of the death of the aforesaid.

4 Nov. Kenilworth. For John de Haddes Hagh’ and Alan Bole. To the barons of the Exchequer. The king, of his special grace, has pardoned to John de Haddeshagh’ and Alan Bale ten marks of 35 m. at which they were amerced before his beloved and faithful Giles of Erdington because they were convicted in the same jury taken before the same Giles and which are exacted from them by summons of the aforesaid Exchequer. Order therefore to cause the aforesaid John and Alan to be quit of the aforesaid ten marks.

Wishing to do special grace to Henry son and heir of Ralph de Dodiscumber, the king has granted to him that concerning all the debts in which the aforementioned Ralph his father was bound to him at the aforesaid Exchequer on the day he died for the time when he was his sheriff of Devon and his escheator in the same county or another bailiff of the king, the same Henry is to render £10 to the king each year at the same Exchequer, namely one moiety at the Exchequer of Easter in the fifty-first year and the other moiety at the Exchequer of Michaelmas next following, and so from year to year £10 at the same terms until the aforesaid debts are paid to the king. Order therefore to cause it to be done and enrolled thus.

And concerning the residue of all the debts which the same Alan owes at the Exchequer, the king has granted to him that he is to render there £20, namely one moiety at the Exchequer of Easter and the other moiety at the Exchequer of Michaelmas, until the residue of the aforesaid debts are paid to the king. For the damages and injuries that the king’s beloved and faithful John Carbonel sustained in his service during the disturbed state of the realm, the king has remitted and pardoned to the same John the fee of £8 in which he is bound by his charter to Diaye son of Bonetti by reason of a debt of six marks which the same John a short time ago received from the aforementioned Jew as a loan. Whereas the king had a short time ago granted to his beloved and faithful Nicholas de Hanred that concerning the debts which he owes at the Exchequer for the time when he was his sheriff of Oxfordshire and Berkshire he was to render ten marks per annum at the same Exchequer, namely five marks at his Exchequer of Easter and five marks at his Exchequer of Michaelmas, and the same Nicholas by reason of the disturbed condition in the king’s realm did not keep those terms, the king for the injuries and losses which the same Nicholas has sustained for the king in this disturbance and wishing to do him grace has granted to him that even though he has not observed the aforesaid terms well, he may recover the same terms, and he is to pay ten marks per annum at the Exchequer until the aforesaid debts shall have been paid. Order therefore to cause the same Nicholas to have those terms, and it to be done and enrolled thus.

Whereas the king had lately granted to Robert de Insula that concerning those two hundred marks by which he made fine with the king for having custody of the lands and heirs of William de Albiniaco he was to render £20 per annum at his Exchequer, namely £10 at Easter and £10 at Michaelmas until the aforesaid 200 m. were paid to the king and the same Robert did not keep those terms as the king has learnt, the king, wishing to provide indemnity for him in this and to do him better grace, has granted to him that he is to recover those terms, so that he is to render £10 per annum at the abovesaid terms at which he was he was accustomed to render the aforesaid £20. The king, at the instance of Edward his first-born son, has pardoned Nicholas de Barmeflet’ £20 in which he is bound to Copin’ son of Salomon, Jew of Worcester, and also £30 in which the same Nicholas is bound to Salomon son of Salomon, Jew of Marlborough, and also £20 in which is bound to Lumbard son of Salomon, Jew of Marlborough, for a debt formerly of Florence daughter of the same Lumbard. Order to the justices assigned to the custody of the Jews to cause the aforesaid charters of the aforesaid Nicholas appertaining to the aforesaid debts to be extracted from the ark of the chirographs and delivered to him, and to cause the same Nicholas to be quit of those debts and similarly the interest and penalities appertaining to those debts, and to cause it to be done and enrolled thus.

Whereas the king had lately ordered his citizens of Lincoln that concerning a fine of £1000 which they lately made with the king for having his good will to cause John de Brilaund, merchant, to have that sum of money for certain debts in which the king was bound to him, and afterwards by reason of the payment of that money not having been made the king caused part of that city to be taken into his hand, and the same citizens have now made fine with the king by £100 for regaining their city, order to cause the same to regain those parts of the city without delay together with everything taken therefrom from the time of the taking of the same into the king’s hand, in order that the same are able to answer both for their farm at next Michaelmas and for the aforesaid £100 at the Exchequer.[in the Roll]

Because the canons of the Apostles Peter and Paul of Ipswich have made fine with the king by 100s. for having custody of their house, in the immediate vacancy of the same, with everything pertaining to the same house, until a prior is provided to the same house, 1 the king on this occasion of his special grace has granted that custody to the same, nevertheless saving advowsons, churches, reliefs, wardships and escheats to himself if any should happen to fall in during the aforesaid vacancy. Order therefore to deliver custody of their house to the aforementioned canons to have just as aforesaid, together with everything taken therefrom from the time of the taking of the same into the king’s hand by reason of the death of Nicholas, the late prior of that house. 2 And the aforesaid canons are to pay the said 100s. to the king at their next coming to court without further delay.[in the Roll]
